I Love (Heart) to Tap Dance Button
I bought this “I Love to Tap Dance” button quite a while ago on eBay and I have no idea who made it. Using a heart to mean "Love" on a button like this is so common now, beginning, I guess, with the I Love (Heart) NY logo from the 1980's. I remember the campaign to promote New York City back when I was a university student. New York had a very poor reputation then, dirty, dangerous, crime ridden. So the savvy PR team created the “I Heart” logo and has a song written to go with it, “I Love New York.” Soon, almost every big city had its “I Heart....” products in gift shops like “I Heart LA” “I Heart SF”. These days, people can and do Heart almost anything. I am sure there must be collectors out there dedicated to just heart stuff.
This “original” I Love to Tap Dance button doesn't exhibit the finest in graphic design, but it one item that prompted my partner and i to begin creating our own tap dance related collectibles, and to open our Tap Wonderland gift Shop, now known as TeeDance. Over the last four years, TeeDance has grown into a tidy, but successful little business and totally supports the maintenance of this website. TeeDance offers buttons, stickers, T-shirts, mugs and other gift items for all kinds of dancers. So, if you're in the need for a gift for a dancer on your list this year, or if you want a new T-shirt for yourself, perhaps something totally unique and guaranteed to remain so, please stop by TeeDance, the Tap Wonderland Gift Shop.
